Day 6

Date January 6, 2013

Day 6: Feeling out the warms now. I am really stumped with this painting. Im not sure if it is subject-images or the way I started it without understanding the movement.

I am having a difficult time wanting to paint this image or procrastinate and work on music production, now that I have my studio mostly operational. Which is more fun holding a paintbrush or a guitar………

Day 5

Date January 6, 2013

Day 5: Trying to get a balance of blue back into to image. Still feels like spitting confetti onto

Day 4

Date January 6, 2013

Day 4: AAmazing how a single color addition changes the feel and intensity of an image even in this stage. The Orange-y yellow just crushes the blue.

Day 3

Date January 6, 2013

Day 3: Blindly groping for a handhold of where this is going. I decided to work within the palette choices from the source material, especially the most primary color blocks.

Day 2

Date January 6, 2013

Day 2: After trying to work on only a couple layers independent of each other I realized I was going down the wrong path. Here is the next work day after spending some time analyzing what was and wasn’t working with this painting and the methods. This is after approx 10 more layers of images have been added over the initial sketches. I would not have chosen the shadow areas I did if I had all the sketches down before painting started.

It is possible that the sketch paint repeat method might work if there were only a small number of images and they were very distinct while trying to keep them intact. A pretty exacting specification to try on any painting.

Day 1

Date January 6, 2013

Day 1: I wanted to have a new painting on the easel during the Fall show, but there wasn’t enough time to prep it like normal. So I tried something new. I wanted to see if Projecting each image and then working on the base(shadow) tones independent of each other would lead somewhere different.

I was able to sketch two mostly non-overlapping layers before starting on the black shadow tones. I realized pretty much immediately that this was a mistake, I couldn’t see where the movement was going to take the painting as a total image.

Here are those first initial layers.
